Jan Whitton began her painting career at Portsmouth College of Art and later furthered her studies at the Valentine Headworth School in Harrow.

Following her move to Gloucestershire, further help and encouragement were received from the late Victor Webb of Cheltenham.

Although Jan has taken career breaks to bring up her family of three sons, she has always managed to continue to paint; her husband Geoffrey is a great support and frames all her work.

Jan has a studio at her home in the small village of Cranham. There is a romantic feel to her landscapes whether it is the palette knife or brush. The Cotswold countryside is where she finds much of her inspiration. Janet is not exclusively a landscape painter enjoying the challenge of still life, seascapes and wild flowers.

Initially Jan worked exclusively in oils, however since one of her pastels won the Staedtler prize in 1995, at the NEC Artists exhibition, her interest in this medium has developed and now forms a large part of her work.

Her work was first exhibited in Ruislip, Middlesex; since moving to the Cotswolds, her work has been shown in various galleries around the county. A regular Summer Exhibition is held in Lower Slaughter. Jan is a member of the Fosseway Artists.

Jan’s other pursuits include, local history, book binding and gardening.
